We’re excited to announce that the preliminary program is now available! Hundreds of prominent leaders in tobacco control will be engaging attendees through a number of lectures, panels, workshops and poster sessions focusing on the following program areas:

  1. Cessation
  2. Communications and Media
  3. Evaluation and Surveillance
  4. Increasing Diversity/Eliminating Disparities
  5. Legal Issues
  6. Nicotine and the Science of Addiction
  7. Non-Cigarette Tobacco and Nicotine Products

Tobacco Control has encountered substantial changes including both successes and challenges since the last NCTOH and since President Obama signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act into law, both over three years ago. Join us for the 2012 conference and prosper from the experience and knowledge that our speakers bring. Easily search the preliminary program by key word and/or speaker name to get a better idea of what we’ll be offering – and make sure to check back regularly for updates!

Don’t miss the screening of Addiction Incorporated! The true story of research scientist Victor DeNoble and his experience with a major tobacco company. If you think you know everything there is to know about cigarettes and nicotine, this film will startle you with its vital, previously undisclosed information.

The movie includes interviews with a number of tobacco control leaders and NCTOH speakers including Greg Connolly, Clifford Douglas, Matt Myers, Mitch Zeller and others. Following the screening there will be a discussion and Q&A period with Victor DeNoble; Charlie Evans; and director and executive producer Charmaine Parcero; moderated by Mitch Zeller.

Join us for popcorn, soda, light snacks and a great networking opportunity!

NCTOH Organizers Looking For Video Shoot Participants

NCTOH Organizers Need You!

Thursday, January 26, 2012
Between 9:00am – 1:30pm & 5:00pm – 7:00pm

What is the NCTOH? The National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH) convenes national and regional public health leaders to strategize, learn about and implement best practices and policies to reduce tobacco use—the leading preventable cause of disease and death in the United States.

Why do we need your help? NCTOH organizers are currently in the process of developing video clips to help promote attendance for the 2012 event, and would like to capture a diverse group of folks’ perspectives on the conference, tobacco control, and Kansas City. The clips will be posted on the NCTOH Website and other social media platforms! Organizers are looking for a variety of people to help, including:

  • Public Health Specialists
  • Doctors and Nurses
  • Ex-Smokers
  • Past Conference Participants
  • First Time Conference Participants
  • Tobacco Control Advocates
  • Health Professors and Students
  • Kansas City Natives
  • Youth Groups and Youth Advocates
  • Tobacco Control Program Staff

Specifically, NCTOH organizers will be in Kansas City, MO on Thursday, January 26th. They will be shooting video between 9:00am – 1:30pm and again from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. If you’d like to participate, and possibly be in one of the final movie clips, then mark your calendars for this date!

What exactly will happen? Your total time commitment will be approximately 30 minutes on-site. Once you arrive at the shoot, NCTOH staff members will prep you for the camera, and then ask you a few general questions, depending on your background and experience. Some examples include:

  • Describe your favorite NCTOH memory.
  • What do you love about the NCTOH?
  • Why are you looking forward to attending the 2012 NCTOH?
  • Give the top reason you’re an advocate for tobacco control.
  • What’s your favorite place to eat in the Power and Light District?
  • Why is Kansas City a great place to visit?
  • What are the “must dos” when traveling to Kansas City?

Yes, I want to help! What do I do now? Send an email to mmoshinskie@desainc.com stating that you’re willing to participate in the NCTOH video shoot on January 26th and which shift (AM or PM) you’d prefer. We’ll reply with exact information on where the shoot will be (Kansas City metro area), what time you need to be there and a listing of questions to prepare for.
